Tasting notes

This dynamic blend of 72% Cabernet Franc and 28% Syrah was created to compliment the dinner table as well as any cocktail hour. With rich yet supple tannins, this wine has a big mouth feel and finishes soft and silky. It is richly layered with ripe black cherry, plum, currants, cocoa, and caramel. Patient aging in French oak barrels for 24 months has brought this blend into balance. The source of the Cabernet Franc fruit comes from Chalk Hill in Sonoma County. The rich volcanic soil and step hillsides create an ideal growing condition for intense flavors and complexity. The Syrah comes from Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County where weather allows for it to thrive in the hot summer days and its complex soil from the ancient sea floor adds to its richness.

Harvest 2009

The 2009 vintage was like a good book with a lousy ending if you where caught with your fruit still hanging on the vines when the rains came. However for those who harvested before the rains it proved to be an amazing year! The spring of 2009 was unusually warm and dry. The growing season was uneventful and temperatures were cooler than growers had seen in recent vintages, with fewer heat spikes above 90 degrees in July and August than usual. As September approached, some ripeness levels lagged, but an extended spell of warm temperatures jumpstarted harvest. Then the rain rolled in a few weeks early starting on October 13. The downpour quickly dumped six inches in Sonoma County and continued intermittently. Growers and winemakers waited till the last minute to allow there vineyards every hour possible to reach their harvest numbers. Then on top of stressing out about the harvest numbers, it became a challenge to find picking crews since so many vineyards where essentially picking on the same day. Those who elected to ride out the rain suffered for it. Much of the fruit fell apart and never ripened.
