Catch & Release (Zinfandel)
Our Zinfandel is bone dry, NOT sweet! It’s burst with big red berry fruit, raspberry, and cranberry with a peppery spice that adds layer and depth. We use around 50% new American oak and barrel age our wine between 16-18 months. The Zinfandel seems to soak up the American oak and integrate beautifully! This wine is all about back yard grilling, it seems like anything off the grill pairs perfectly with it.
AVA
Our Zinfandel comes from the valley floor in the center of Sonoma Valley. The 14 year old vineyard was planted where an old rocky creek bed used to flow. The appellation is bordered by two mountain ranges: the Mayacama Mountains to the east and the Sonoma Mountains to the west. Along with being the center of Sonoma County’s winemaking history, the area is also known for its unique terroir, protected from the wet and cool influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean by Sonoma Mountain.
Varietal
Zinfandel is grown in over 10% of California vineyards. DNA analysis has revealed that it is genetically equivalent to the Croatian grapes Crljenak Kaštelanski and Tribidrag, as well as to the Primitivo variety traditionally grown in Apulia (the "heel" of Italy), where it was introduced in the 18th century. The grape found its way to the United States in the mid-19th century.
