Our style of Viognier is dry, crisp, and aromatic! We strive to produce a very aromatic wine that jumps out of the glass with notes apricot and white peaches. Order for us to accomplish this, we have to be very patient right before picking and wait for these district flavors to develop. It’s strange, but this varietal will let you know when it’s ready to be picked. This wine is produced in a stainless steel tank and does not go through a secondary fermentation. This allows us to keep the acidity and helps cut through the viscosity that naturally occurs in Viognier.
AVA
Our Viognier is sourced from Sonoma Valley just north of the town of Sonoma, CA. This vineyard sits in the heart of Sonoma Valley in the southern portion of the county. The appellation is bordered by two mountain ranges: the Mayacama Mountains to the east and the Sonoma Mountains to the west. Along with being the center of Sonoma County’s winemaking history, the area is also known for its unique terroir, protected from the wet and cool influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean by Sonoma Mountain.
Varietal
The most extraordinary thing about the story of Viognier is how closely it almost shriveled to extinction. In 1985, just 80 acres of it was planted in the entire world, almost all of which was on the right bank of the northern Rhône. By 2011, plantings had risen to 400 acres and the variety was known and often grown virtually throughout the world of wine - primarily because of its extraordinary combination of perfume and body.
